Netbook PC pioneer Asus aims to double its market share to become the world’s number three laptop vendor by 2011.
Asus is currently fifth in the world; Acer and HP occupy the first and second positions respectively. A jump into third place would require Asus to overtake Dell.
Based on my personal customer service experience disaster and the outsourcing of American jobs to the Middle East, one can understand some of the causes behind Dell’s continued slide in a market they once lead.
Asus pioneered the wildly successful low-cost netbook PC in 2007, but has been gradually losing market share as other brands enter the market, and as it grapples with a reorganisation following its fourth-quarter loss last year.
Asus will be introducing five new laptop models based on Intel’s consumer ultra-low voltage chip (CULV) this year, as part of its strategy to grow market share.
“We call it the three-three policy, to be ranked third by market share in 2011,” says Asus chief executive Jerry Shen. “Our current market share is about 5%, and it would have to be about 10% to become number three.”
Shen gave a similarly bullish outlook for the company’s prospects in China, where he expects to be on par with second-ranked HP by market share in 2010.
“We don’t think Asus can take first place in China, but to be on equal footing with the current number two player should be possible next year in the laptop PC segment,” Shen claims.
A short summary of “Technical Support Incompetence” found on my3centsworth.com, a site for consumers for information/reviews of companies. Is provided after my quick story. I didn’t read all the reviews but I can say from personal experience that I have spent many hours just in the process to attempt to buy from Dell Computer and finally after being told I could not cancel my order, I referenced the FTC mail order rule and the then agreed to cancel my order and return my money. Just to get support on the item I had ordered and get simple information, my calls were all transfered to the Middle East (every call, including sales questions) where I was taken through numerous individuals for which the majority had such a strong accent, I had difficulty understanding them and had to ask them to repeat their questions. I made the mistake of telling one I couldn’t understand their English and thus was treated rather rudely. I had just placed an order and they already started treating me like SH*T.
Numerous emails and phone calls, all with replies from their Middle Eastern support staff failed to address my issue or even provide simple information. Dell was the first to initiate my need to call them by sending an email with a number to call. This resulted in transfers, information not being passed on from one support staff to the other, thus the customer repeating all information and the history of the call to the next, EVER time. Finally, the decided the number they asked me to call was not the correct number and I had to personally dial the other number and of course, pass along all the information again for a product I hadn’t even received yet. Well, the story goes on and I was disconnected, cutt-off and transfered in mid sentence when I attempted to explain a question they had asked me. I finally canceled even thought they attempted to deceive me and claim I couldn’t cancel it. I also had to file a complain with the FTC to report their deceiving practices.
So, America, Dell thinks we are served better by sending us to a country where english is not their native language, where they do not directly address an issue and apparently treat us like Sh*t until we get tired and give up and at the same time, take jobs away from Americans and send them to our friends in the Middle East who as you all know, love us over hear..haha.
